Il tramonto del C-2 “Greyhound”, il “rider” delle portaerei dell’US Navy
Published April 2024
For more than half a century the Carrier Onboard delivery (COD) has been carried out by the United States Navy workhorse the Grumman C-2A Greyhound. With an impressive service record, the capabilities of this reliable aircraft are outdated and with the introduction of the Boeing V-22 Osprey, the United States Navy (USN) started to investigate the possibilities to replace the C-2A Greyhound with the United States Navy customized Boeing CMV-22B Osprey.
The C-2A Greyhound will be withdrawn from use no later than 2026 and currently two squadrons already have been equipped with the CMV-22B and have reached the Safe for Flight status. With VRM-30 Titans and VRM-50 “Sun Hawks”, gradually taking over the operational lifetime of the C-2A Greyhound is approaching its final withdrawal from use. Engage AFR comment on the hay days of C-2A operations and the sundown of the trusted VRC squadrons.
